Vacuum Operator

BASIC PURPOSE

The Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment as well as, setting of temperatures and time cycles, the setup of equipment, posting of production records and maintaining normal production yields. Will be required to stage production parts throughout the shop to meet production and customer requirements. Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Manager.

MINIMUM POSITION SPECIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Experience:  Minimum 1-3 years experience in heat treating.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent 

Language Skills: English: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must have working knowledge of heat treating, testing and commercial materials.
  • Must have basic knowledge of metallurgy, temperatures, etc.

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods, bend, and stoop and lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • May be exposed to heat, noise, humidity, fumes.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain status of certified forklift operator.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must have basic math and measuring skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must exhibit a positive attitude and be a proven team player
  • Must be able to work extended hours and be available for weekend work as production dictates
  • Be physically able to move inventory throughout the shop and fixture parts for heat treatment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize staging areas daily. Ensure that all parts are correctly identified and that operations are signed off as completed.
  • Operates controls and monitors multiple pieces of heat treating equipment.
  • Follows written procedures on shop traveler and/or customer paperwork.
  • Loads and unloads furnaces, bins, fixtures, baskets, etc.
  • Promotes safety and good housekeeping practices.
  • Responsible for following production schedules.
  • Responsible for the quality of his/her production.
  • Responsible for the conveyance of pertinent information to relieving operator.
  • Maintain heat treat area and equipment. Fixture parts as required and operate vacuum furnace(s)
  • Care for thermocouples, chart records, fixtures, and furnaces. Coordinate malfunctions or maintenance issues with the supervisor
  • Maintain accurate records, including department logs.
  • Understand and use pre-set programs. Monitor programs to ensure the proper functioning of furnaces. May be required to edit programs.
  • Communicate all facets of the production day with the shift supervisor.
  • Move parts between departments.
  • Provide skids, carts, or racks to other departments.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to either the Shift Supervisor or designate.  Maintains regular interface with Operators, shift supervisor and Inspector or other quality personnel.
